 Jembrana Special International Workcamp

25 July – 5 Agustus 2016

It was great experience worked in 12 days with volunteer from another countries, there were 1 Swistzerland, 2 french, 3 Korean, and 1 Indonesian Camp Leader. During the nine days we did school activities in SMP Negeri 5 Melaya which located in Jembana regency, Bali Island. Then we spent 2 days in Denpasar for the special activities.
Our main project in the school is assisting local English teacher in teaching English to the students in a class and renovating the school. We started activity in the school from 8.00 – 12.00 for teaching in 7, 8, 9 grades. Then we back home for lunch and take a rest for 2 hours. After that we went to the school and did physical work for renovating the garden at 2.00 – 4.00 PM.
We did several manual works such as cleaning, gardening, picking up the litters, cementing the bricks to make small path to the holly place in the back of school, cementing and putting on the ceramics to the wall of garden, and the special one was we made Dejavato Foundation’s name on the stone as appreciation of good cooperation between Dejavato and SMP Negeri 5 Melaya.
Sometimes after works, we go to the beach, dam, and church by pick-up car. In another activity we also learned Bali dance which was guide by the dancer in our homestay. Then practiced traditional music instruments of Bali in the school that guide by some students. On Sunday we did weekend activities to go Lovina Beach and Bedugul Tempel together. We left from home at 3.30 AM because want to see the dolphins. We were happy to explore some tourism place in the north of Bali, even there were very crowded because of the weekend.
Some of them bought souvenir such as bracelets, tote bag, postcard, and Bali’sarong. In the last day of our project in Jembrana we did cooking exchange and farewell with the Pak Rita’s family, teachers, and some neighbors in our homestay. We cooked French Pancake, Swistzerland Bread Roast, French Fries, Korean Triangle Rice, Ramen, Black Fried Noodle, and Indonesian Sup Buah.
On the special activities days in Denpasar we had visited Tanah Lot and Kuta Beach on the first day. Then walked around Legian Street in the night and did shopping there. Second day we headed to Nusa Dua Beach and went to Turtle Island, Dreamland Beach, and Uluwatu Temple. Three volunteers couldn’t go with us because of sick and just took a rest in homestay.
There was sad moment in Uluwatu that my glasses was stolen by monkey in the parking area. It was broken and can not be used anymore. But everything was fine because my Korean volunteer gave me his glasses for a while. I will always remember great experience for everything we have done. This workcamp is awesome more than I expected !
Thanks Dejavato.
